"Nestled in the tranquil landscape of Bar Harbor, Maine, Aperture is conceived as an artist residence that offers both retreat and reflection, an escape from urban intensity into nature’s rhythm."
Oriented along the North-South axis, the project responds directly to the sun’s path, from 20° in winter to 70° in summer. Three distinct masses are angled and separated to capture light at different moments of the day and year, allowing illumination to enter either directly or through gentle diffusion. This interplay of shadow and brightness transforms the interiors into contemplative spaces that nurture solitude, creativity, and a deep connection to the surrounding environment. This intentional orientation is a sustainable strategy, and a poetic generator of form, shaping an architecture that celebrates time, season and light.
"With it’s thoughtful articulation of the landscape and views, Aperture becomes a personalized hub for resting, working, relaxing, inspiring, and appreciating the earth that allows this place to be."
